Giovanna's Father (Il papà di Giovanna) Bologna 1938. Giovanna is a shy, insecure and average looking young woman, to whom, her father, Michele, an art teacher, has been faithfully devoted to giving the best education and sense of self-confidence. A serious problem strikes this strong father-daughter relationship when it is learned that Giovanna has just killed her best friend out of jealousy. Giovanna is sent away to a mental hospital, and the only person who looks after her is her father. The girl's beautiful mother, Delia, has always been excluded. The only witness to the murder is Sergio, a good friend of Michele's, who has long been secretly in love with Delia. In the winter of 1953, in a dark movie theater in a Bologna that is still recovering from the war, Delia chances upon her daughter. Giovanna is with her father, who has always remained close to her. And at this point, without any hesitation, the mother steps forward to try to start a new life together. At the Venice Film Festival nominated for the Golden Lion to Pupi Avati, and winner of the Little Golden Lion to Pupi Avati, the Pasinetti Award and the Volpi Cup as Best Actor to Silvio Orlando.
