The Second Wedding Night (La seconda notte di nozze) Set in Puglia after the end of World War II, this story is about Giordano, an unkempt, mature man who is largely ignored as he goes about his routine life, which includes removing landmines from the fields. Only his two elderly aunts, with whom he lives and runs the family candy factory, seem to care about him. Then one day his life changes, when he receives a letter from Lilliana, his recently widowed sister-in-law, whom he has secretly loved since adolescence. Giordano is delighted, and wastes no time in inviting Lilliana to the family's residence at their large farm, prompting an angry reaction from his aunts. Upon her arrival with her crafty and deceitful son, Nino, alongside the aunts' cold reception, is Giordano's, which is characteristically nice. In his excitement, Lilliana catches glimpses of Giordano's psychological problems. Over time, however, her affection for this endlessly kind and gentle man slowly grows. Time seems to set everything straight, even resulting in acceptance of the situation by the elderly aunts, and Giordano finding -- timidly but warmly -- a loving relationship with Lilliana!
